EYEWEAR DESIGN
7th grade - 8th grade
This summer, I worked on a something that was not only a project, but an amazing opportunity. The project to design a pair of glasses. Of course, the idea seemed unrealistic, but it was something I absolutely wanted to do. The main point of the project was to get experience of working with professionals and to raise some money for charity. Luckily, my mom loved the idea, and was able to find some designers to work with me on the project. For several months, the designers and I exchanged notes and plans for the eyeglasses. Once we had the final blueprints, we sent the plans to a factory to be manufactured. This was, obviously, quite costly, so the project had to be taken seriously.
The glasses were designed to illustrate filmmaking. One lens was an aperture of a camera, while the other was a piece of film. I wanted the camera to look and feel interactive, so I added a few buttons on top along with two holes where, if it were a real camera, a strap would be inserted The designers came up with an idea to have the back legs clip together when the glasses were closed. The glasses were originally meant to be black and white, but due to slight issues with the manufacturer, the glasses came out a little bit green. On the other hand, some would agree that a green color pallete is a better look, so we decided to kept it the way it was.
If you like, you could purchase a pair of these glasses at Puyi Optical. The money earnt from selling these glasses are sent to Orbis, an organization that focuses on giving optical aid to people with sight issues who cannot afford proper treatment.
Why Orbis? Because Orbis associates with eye treatment, and therefore is completely relates to Puyi Optical. Not only that, I've given charitable donations to the same organization in the past. For instance, when sold my comics book at the bookfair. To see more information about Orbis, you can browse through their website.
This project was increadibly fun, but at the same time was an amazing experience. To see how clever and talented professional designers were, I find that I have learnt a lot from doing this project.
