I'm the guy in the middle of the picture, and that's my family. My name is Julian Yau. I attend Hong Kong International School, and I love making art.
Since I was in preschool, I enjoyed making video game consoles out of paper, as I wasn't allowed yet to have one. As I became older, I built cars, robots, transformers and 'time machines' out of paper. During primary school, I really enjoyed playing a game called Pokemon. This lead to my obsession with drawing. I began to be so passionate about it, that I would often spend a few hours every day practicing.

5th Grade - 7th grade
During primary school, I had a huge obsession with time-travel. So seeing back to the future was one of the most amazing moments of my life. Motivated by a passionate desire to craft things, I started off by trying to build the Delorean. It really frustrated me, because I was never able to get the proportion right. I saved that idea for another project, and instead made the train. This was the train from the third sequel of Back to the Future. I built it out of black paper and tape, along with some toothpicks.

In 2014, we were assigned a group science project that involved making a device that can make everyday life easier. The device also had to involve some type of energy transfer. I chose to work with my two friends: Jason Fan and Eliot Min. As we began brainstorming, we were drawn towards the idea of charging an iPhone. The iPhone is a huge part of life in the working class, so it made sense to transfer some type of energy to power an iPhone. We browsed the internet, and found something called a Solar Powered Backpack Charger. The idea was a backpack with solar panels built on its surface could power several devices.
